Author Guidelines

Papsel Economic Journal (PEJ)

Papsel Economic Journal (PEJ) is a peer-reviewed, open-access scientific journal that publishes original research articles, conceptual papers, and scholarly reviews in the fields of economics, management, business, accounting, finance, development economics, entrepreneurship, digital economy, Islamic economics, and other related disciplines.

All manuscripts submitted to PEJ must be original works that have not been previously published or simultaneously submitted to another journal. Authors are required to comply with these Author Guidelines to facilitate the editorial evaluation and peer-review process. The following guidelines are developed based on the official PEJ manuscript template and writing instructions.

Manuscript Template

Authors are required to prepare and format their manuscripts using the official Papsel Economic Journal (PEJ) Manuscript Template. The template provides detailed formatting instructions, including page layout, heading styles, tables, figures, equations, citations, and references. Manuscripts that do not comply with the prescribed template may be returned to the authors for revision before entering the peer-review process.

The latest version of the manuscript template can be downloaded from the journal website under the Submission menu or directly at: Download the template

General Manuscript Requirements

Authors should prepare their manuscripts using Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) according to the following specifications:

  • Font: Book Antiqua
  • Font size: 12 pt
  • Line spacing: Single
  • Paper size: A4
  • The article title should not exceed 15 words.

All tables and figures must be sequentially numbered and accompanied by informative titles and source information where applicable.

Manuscripts may be written in either English or Bahasa Indonesia using clear, concise, and academically appropriate language.

Manuscript Structure

The manuscript should be organized in the following order:

  • Title
  • Author(s)
  • Affiliation(s)
  • Corresponding Author
  • Abstract
  • Keywords
  • Introduction
  • Literature Review
  • Methodology
  • Results and Discussion
  • Conclusion
  • References

Title

The title should accurately reflect the content and scope of the manuscript while remaining concise, specific, and informative. It should clearly indicate the primary focus of the study and must not exceed 15 words. The title should be written in Book Antiqua, 14 pt, bold, and center-aligned.

Abstract

The manuscript must include abstracts in English and Bahasa Indonesia, each consisting of no more than 250 words.

The abstract should be written as a single paragraph and briefly describe:

  • the research background,
  • research objectives,
  • methodology,
  • principal findings,
  • and the main conclusion.

The abstract should not contain citations, tables, figures, equations, or undefined abbreviations.

Authors must provide 3–5 keywords immediately below the abstract. Keywords should represent the main concepts of the study and be separated by commas.

1. Introduction

The Introduction should provide sufficient background information to allow readers to understand the research problem. Authors should describe the current condition of the research field, identify empirical or theoretical gaps, explain the novelty of the study, and clearly formulate the research objectives. The Introduction should conclude with a concise statement describing the contribution of the study to the existing body of knowledge.

The Introduction should include:

  • Background
  • Research problem
  • Literature gap
  • Research gap
  • Novelty
  • Research objectives
  • Expected contribution

2. Literature Review

The Literature Review should critically discuss previous studies and relevant theories supporting the research. Rather than merely describing existing literature, authors are encouraged to compare findings from previous studies, identify inconsistencies, and establish the theoretical foundation for the present study.

For quantitative studies, this section should conclude with the development of hypotheses.

For qualitative studies, this section should explain the conceptual framework guiding the research.

3. Methodology

The Methodology section should provide sufficient detail to enable other researchers to replicate the study.

Authors should clearly describe:

  • the research design;
  • research approach;
  • research location or setting;
  • population and sample or research participants;
  • sampling techniques;
  • data sources;
  • data collection procedures;
  • operational definitions of variables (for quantitative studies);
  • research instruments;
  • data analysis techniques or statistical methods employed;
  • and software used for data analysis, where applicable.

The choice of methodology should be scientifically justified by explaining why the selected methods are appropriate for addressing the research objectives.

If mathematical equations or statistical formulas are included, each equation should be sequentially numbered and all variables and symbols should be clearly defined.

The methodology should be presented in a transparent and systematic manner to ensure the research is repeatable and reproducible.

4. Results and Discussion

The Results and Discussion section constitutes the core of the manuscript and should present the research findings systematically according to the research objectives or hypotheses.

Research findings should be presented clearly using tables, figures, graphs, or narrative explanations without unnecessary duplication of information. Every table and figure should be numbered consecutively, provided with a descriptive title, and referred to appropriately within the text.

The Discussion should extend beyond merely describing the results. Authors are expected to interpret their findings by relating them to the underlying theories, previous empirical studies, and the research objectives. The discussion should explain the possible reasons behind the findings, examine their consistency or inconsistency with earlier research, and highlight their theoretical, managerial, practical, or policy implications.

A high-quality discussion demonstrates how the findings contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge while emphasizing the originality and significance of the research.

5. Conclusion

The Conclusion should concisely summarize the principal findings of the study and directly address the research objectives or hypotheses.

Rather than repeating the discussion, this section should synthesize the major contributions of the research and explain their implications for theory, practice, or policymaking. Authors are also encouraged to acknowledge the limitations of the study and propose directions for future research that could extend or refine the current findings.

Where appropriate, practical recommendations based on the research results may also be included.

References

References must be prepared in accordance with the APA Style (7th Edition).

The following requirements apply:

  • A minimum of 15 references is required.
  • At least 80% of all references should be derived from peer-reviewed journal articles.
  • Authors are strongly encouraged to use recent literature published within the last ten years.
  • Non-scholarly sources, including personal blogs and Wikipedia, should not be cited.
  • Authors should use reference management software such as Mendeley, Zotero, EndNote, or equivalent software to ensure citation consistency.
